What is the dew point?


Dew point refers to the temperature at which the moisture contained in the gas is condensed into water droplets when the vapor in the gas remains unchanged and the Pneumatic pressure remains unchanged. It is a unit for measuring the degree of dryness or moisture of the gas. The World Meteorological Organization WMO recommends using the Goff-Gratch formula for calculation.When there is less vapour in the gas, the dew point temperature will be lower. Dew point is an important parameter and performance index of desiccant wheel. 


How to measure the dew point of the desiccant wheel?

When measuring the dew point of a desiccant wheel, it is actually the moisture content of the compressed air, despite its pressure dew point unit being "degrees". In fact when measuring the dew point it is measuring the water saturation in the compressed air. There are many measuring instruments, including mirror dew point meters made with cold sources such as nitrogen and ether, and hygrometers that use phosphorus pentoxide and lithium chloride as electrolytes. At present, the special gas dew point meter for industry is used to measure the dew point, and the measurement range can reach minus 80 degrees.

What are the precautions during the measurement process?

The dew point meter is for measuring the dew point during actual use. When the moisture content of the measured air is very low, the measurement operation should be patiently. We should pay attention to the air sample collection equipment and pipelines to be dry and fully sealed, select the pipeline gas sample flow rate according to the standard, leave enough pretreatment time, and use it with caution to prevent errors. Especially when phosphorus pentoxide is used as the electrolyte, a "micro-water content analyzer" is prepared for pressure dew point measurement, and the theoretical error is relatively large. Therefore, when measuring the dew point of the dehumidification and desiccant wheel, we should pay attention to the standardized measurement. Multiple measurement should be taken to avoid theoretical error. If the error is large, the instrument should be replaced.
